- Lab Rules - The primary purpose of the labs is to support the
educational process. Accordingly, users are expected to conduct themselves in a
mature and professional fashion at all times. If users do not do so when asked,
they may have their accounts locked. Users who persist in poor behavior will be
considered in violation of department policies. You will be exected to conduct
yourself according to the following rules at all times while in the labs:
Food/Drink - Food and drink are not permitted in the labs, except for Bolz
111.
Game Playing - Games are available on the CSE computer systems. However,
users should not use a workstation exclusively for game playing when the lab they
are in is more than half full. CSE operators and consultants have the authority to
ask users who are playing games under such circumstances to stop and to surrender
their workstation if they have no other work to do.
Giving your password out - It is CSE Dept. policy that no user shall give
out his/her account password FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER. Under no circumstances
should you reveal your password, and you are required to change your password
immediately if you believe your account's security has been compromised.
Letting someone use your account - It is also against CSE Dept. policy to
share computer accounts. Anyone found in violation of this policy should be
brought to the attention of the Help Desk immediately.
Locking PCs - Users can lock their PCs if they have to leave them for a
short time. Terminals and workstations should be locked for no more than 15
minutes. The CSE Operations staff will log users out of machines which have been
locked for more than 15 minutes. If you find a public-use machine that is locked
for longer than 15 minutes and you wish to use it, please ask a lab consultant to
unlock the machine.
Displaying Offensive Images - Computers in public labs and offices are the property of
the University and are part of the workplace. Images should be appropriate for
maintaining a supportive, friendly work environment. Any user who finds the display
of a particular image inappropriate should notify the CSE Help Desk by sending an
e-mail to help@cse.ohio-state.edu.
Printer Usage - Users are allowed no more than 3 consecutive print jobs in a
given print queue at any given time.
-The printers are not copiers. Users should not print out multiple copies of the
same document.
-Large or graphically intensive print jobs should be printed out only when demand
for the printer is low.
-Violation of any of the above policies will result in your print job/s being
deleted by the lab consultant.
- Employment Opportunities - The CSE Dept. has three types of lab consultant
positions available. As a CSE Consultant, your main responsibility
is customer service. In this case, the customers are the users in the labs.
Your primary responsibility will be to make sure the labs maintain an environment
conducive to learning. To that end, you will be required to ensure that the lab
and its equipment are kept clean and in proper working condition, to see to it that
all users abide by CSE and University policies, and to answer all user questions to
the best of your ability.
There are currently three positions that consult for classes taught in the CSE Dept:
Windows Consultant, Java Consultant, and UNIX consultant.
