Award Nominations

Overview

The CSE Department Awards Program recognizes faculty, staff, and students for noteworthy accomplishments "above and beyond" expectations. Each winner receives a prize and/or cash award at the discretion of the department chair, along with recognition on a permanent plaque displayed in the department. Faculty, staff, and students affiliated with the department may make nominations. The department chair, with the advice of an ad hoc committee appointed by the chair, evaluates the nominations and selects winners. Each award may have zero or more winners in a given year, based on the number and quality of the nominations, though typically there will be one winner in most categories and a few in the others.

Eligibility

Eligibility for each award is evident from the title of the award, except in two cases. Any faculty member, staff member, or student who has been in the department for at least one year at the time of nomination may win the Service Award. The Chair's Special Service Award is reserved for someone who is not a regular employee of the department, yet who has made outstanding contributions to the department over a number of years. A winner of any award during the past three years is ineligible to win that award again, but is eligible for other awards.

The Staff Years of Service Recognition is determined objectively. The department's human resources officer, at the chair's request, reports the names of staff members who have just achieved the milestones of 20 years and 30 years of service with the department.
