Equipment Purchase/Setup

Contemplating the purchase of new computing devices for your research? The CSE Computing Staff can help. Contact the Help Desk via e-mail with your requirements, and a CSE Computing Staff member will coordinate with you to provide guidance and obtain quotes for equipment that meets your needs.

Once equipment is purchased, there is a workflow in place allowing the Computing Staff to receive and inventory the equipment, notify the purchaser, and assist with initial setup and installation if requested.

The process is as follows:

  1. Computing Staff is notified by the administrative staff when new computing devices are purchased.
  2. Computing Staff will open a ticket and request any necessary information about the device, such as install location, what device is being replaced and so on. Computing Staff will also ask if the purchaser prefers the intial device setup (operating system and software install) be handled by the Computing Staff, or if they prefer to do it themself.
  3. If the Computing Staff performs the intial setup, Computing Staff will require instructions regarding which operating system and what software to install on the device. Computing staff will then CCSS certify the device and install it in the location indicated.
  4. If the Computing Staff does not perform the intial setup, the equipment may be picked up at the Help Desk as soon as it has been inventoried. The purchaser should provide the name of the person picking up the equipment. Valid picture ID will be required before the equipment is released. The primary user of the device will need to follow the appropriate instructions for CCSS certfication before the device may be connected to the CSE network.
