What is home? To some a home is a place you live, whether it is a house, apartment, or condo. To others it is the space in which you feel the most comfortable, a place to build memories as well as a place to return to.

For 15 new faculty to the CSE department their professional home is The Ohio State University. Within this new cohort of faculty 4 alumni - Jaimie Kelly, PhD ’17, Assistant Professor of Practice; Martin Kong (Moreno), PhD ’15, Assistant Professor; Hari Subramoni, PhD ’13, Assistant Professor; and Donald Williamson, PhD ’16, Associate Professor - are returning HOME to CSE teach a new generation of computer scientists.

Jaimie Kelley

Dr. Jaimie Kelley spent the last five years teaching at liberal arts universities in Ohio. Teaching the next generation has always been her ongoing purpose. "I enjoyed teaching students in small class sizes, but kept thinking about my ability to effectively support so many more students than those in my classes. Accepting this Assistant Professor of Practice position in the Computer Science and Engineering department at OSU felt like coming home. Here, I hope to be able to positively impact more students and more effectively support diversity in Computer Science," stated Jaimie.

“There are many reasons for coming back to The Ohio State University. OSU has given me a lot. First, my graduate experience here was great. I had wonderful advisors and labmates here. In particular, CSE was exceptionally strong in high-performance computing, and I felt there was a tradition to which I could contribute. Then, I heard of all the growing and changes that were taking place in the department, on campus, University wide, in the city, and it just felt right,” said Martin. Before coming back to CSE, Dr. Moreno was an Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science at the University of Oklahoma.

Dr. Williamson moved to the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering at Indiana University after graduation where he was able to establish his research group and further evolve his projects and interests. Donald returns to CSE@OSU because it’s a “a special place that is ideal for developing the next generation of computer scientist and engineers. Students are exposed to a wealth of interdisciplinary knowledge that is beneficial for them now as students and when they address different problems during later stages of their career. I definitely want to be a part of this process and contribute in any way that I can. Furthermore, the future prospects of CSE@OSU are extremely bright, and I wanted to be a part of that.”

The CSE Department is excited to Welcome Home our Alumni along with the other 11 new faculty joining our already distinguished faculty!
