Computer Science Education - The Changing Landscape

The role of a clinical professor places a special emphasis on education - specifically for undergraduate and Masters level students.

In this talk I will present two facets of that focus on education.

First a sample of my classroom teaching style will be provided via a mock session on the subject of the Relational Model for databases.

Following that I will discuss some thoughts on online courses, which have rapidly become a major issue that impacts the core educational mission of every department on campus.

Dr. Jeremy Morris obtained his PhD from CSE in 2010. His PhD advisor was Dr. Fosler-Lussier; his dissertation work related to automatic speech recognition. In addition to an MS in CSE (from our dept., 2007), Jeremy also has an MS in Math Education.

Since 2010, Jeremy has been a senior lecturer in the dept. and has taught a wide range of courses: Java 1, Java2; Software I, II; Databases I; AI 1, AI 2; and the 1-credit course on Lisp programming. Jeremy has also developed an on-line course on Java for use by Nationwide.
